lived in - worked in...

"Lived in" is what we refer to as the places we live on a day to day basis but really try to make them look like museums. No matter how hard we try for our homes to look pristine for every drop-in visitor....our homes will be lived in, which means they will always have battle scars from day to day living, trash around the house that seems to be a result of a shipment of a live animal and peanuts gone horribly wrong...(to those concerned, this is only an absurd analogy. No animals were hurt or injured in the writing of this link). Besides, don't we all really want our houses to be homes...full of times that are good, bad, happy, not-so-happy, calm, crazy, etc......that would be lived in.

Idiom Smithery specializes in "lived in - worked in" spaces...., married, with kids, post kids, pending kids, neighbor's kids....educational, religious, entertainment, retail, historic, green...we do it all. The one thing that we love is the opportunity to go into a unique situation and come up with the unique result....not cookie cutter....unique....YOU.

"Worked in" are the spaces dedicated to consuming over one-third of our lives...yet, we rarely give credence to what those spaces are like...are they enjoyable, light, airy, cluttered, claustrophobic, loud, soothing, grand, gaudy, difficult, confusing, simple, efficient, fun...

Idiom Smithery wants to do more than just give a building with plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. We want to give you a space where you can thrive - physically, mentally, financially, spiritually & emotionally. We believe that we can accomplish this...then, we have done our job as designers.

the PROCESS ...

Here is what we do....we meet....we look at your site (if you have one)....then we go to Panera Bread or something like that to talk about your dreams and visions of what you need, want and have always dreamed about. Next, we talk about your top two or three spaces that have to be perfect....then, you give us your favorite colors....then, favorite architectural style....then, we might talk about materials, but we might not. The reason...your needs, wants and dreams are the most vital when laying a foundation for what we are doing. We don't want to try and squeeze your dreams and aspirations for your future home or business into a certain brick or plumbing layout. No offense. We like brick...and we definitely like plumbing...just in the right hierarchy.

From here, we sketch some concepts together, then we break huddle. From initial renderings/ sketches all the way to final permit drawings, the premise is always what that first meeting dealt with....unless of course, you change your mind somewhere in the middle! Then, it's time to get the drawing phase finished so that we can start the fun part...seeing the floor and walls go up!
